Access to Mechanics (Motorbikes)

What

In partnership with Rural and Urban Training Scheme (RUTS), Access to Industry are delighted to be offering a new course aimed at providing young people who have a keen interest in motorbike mechanics with an introduction into the industry. It will help them to expand their knowledge and skill sets, gain real practical experience, and build lasting relationships with employers. Modules covered include:

  • Think bike – A broad introduction to safe & legal motorbike use
  • Fix bike – An introduction to motorbike mechanics
  • Ride bike – An introduction to motorbike riding

Students on the course will be supported by a dedicated Caseworker throughout, who will then continue to support them with progressing onto positive destinations within their chosen field once the course is completed.

Students will achieve a City and Guilds SCQF Level 5 Award in Motorlearn. Students will also achieve an Adult Achievement Award.

Who

Young people aged 16-24, living in Edinburgh, and experiencing barriers to education and/or employment. They must be currently unemployed and not in education or training.

When

The course usually runs two days a week over a four-week period. Future dates TBC.

Aims to provide young people who have a keen interest in motorbike mechanics with a pathway into the industry.

Delivered at RUTS purpose-built training facility in Newtongrange (Former Central Workshops, Lady Victoria Colliery, EH22 4QN).
