Communication Course (Dark Side of Edinburgh & Psychology)

Our Communication course teaches participants how to communicate effectively in a wide range of circumstances – from answering a call to meeting with a friend. Given its theme,it also provides a chance for students to explore the dark underbelly of Edinburgh whilst working towards an SQA qualification in Communication Skills.

The course covers a range of skills, including reading, understanding and evaluating documents, writing documents to convey information, opinions or ideas, and taking part in a discussion on a topic or giving a short presentation. The course helps build participants’ self confidence and their ability to work within a team. Participants get to find out about and see the parts of Edinburgh that tourists don’t!

The course is delivered in partnership with Edinburgh College and is designed for unemployed students from disadvantaged backgrounds who may require support to maintain a college place. It offers progression on to a range of related courses at the College.

Participants must be of working age and not currently in education or employment. They must also meet other specific entry requirements (contact us for details).

Classes run weekly throughout the year.

Participants learn a range of practical communications skills that will enhance their employability and be useful in their day-to-day lives. Participants can achieve SQA units in Communication at SCQF level 4 or 5. They can also achieve SQA units in Working with Others at SCQF level 4.
