Our Access Data Service is looking forward to working with the University of Edinburgh to deliver a two-part Wikipedia Workshop for Access to Industry students, on Thursday 25 November and Thursday 2 December.

During the workshop, students can learn how Wikipedia works and start creating their own articles, while at the same time practicing their digital skills – essential for the contemporary job market. This in-person training will take place in the beautiful St. Cecilia’s Hall (pictured), which the students will get a grand tour of during their first session.

After the workshop, interested students will get a chance to volunteer with the University of Edinburgh’s libraries, helping with library digitisation. This will be open to a limited number of students who participated in the workshop, with full details given during the second session.

A big thank you also goes to the University of Edinburgh’s IT Reuse Project, for donating a number of laptops for participants to use during the workshops.

University of Edinburgh Museums’ Community Outreach Officer, Laura Beattie, says:
“We’re always looking for ways to support our local community to increase their employability and to introduce them to our spaces and collections so we’re delighted to work with Access to Industry on these Wikipedia Workshops, especially as data skills are in so much demand these days. We’re very lucky to have a Wikimedian-in-Residence at the University who is going to lead these workshops and we hope that the participants will go away feeling confident and inspired to do similar work in future.”
