In partnership with GTG Training, Access to Industry is delighted that Access to Mechanics will return this year, following the success of the course’s first run in 2022. Aimed at providing young people aged 18-24, who aren’t in education of employment, with a pathway into the Mechanics industry, the course will run over a four-week period on a two day basis, from 6-28 February 2023, at GTG’s purpose-built training facility at Ratho Station in Edinburgh (pictured below).
The course will cover modules in Introduction to Vehicle Lubrication; Introduction to Vehicle Braking and Systems; Introduction to Vehicle Wheels and Tyre Systems; Vehicle Braking Systems; and Vehicle Wheels and Tyre Systems. At the end of the course, students will achieve a City and Guilds SCQF Level 4 Award in ‘Introduction to Vehicle Systems Maintenance’ and an ‘Adult Achievement Award’.
Students on the course will be supported throughout by a dedicated Caseworker, who will help them with progressing into positive destinations within their chosen field once the course is completed. There is then also the potential to progress onto an apprenticeship or a work placement in a garage or auto-trader.
Alison Cleland, Employability and Recruitment Specialist at GTG Training, says:
‘GTG are delighted to be working with Access to Industry to offer young people experiencing barriers to education or employment the chance to achieve a Nationally recognised qualification within the Automative industry. The aim of this course is to provide a progression opportunity for the young person to move into an apprenticeship, higher education, work placement, or full-time employment.’
