ESOL Classes for Parents in partnership with Edinburgh College

Following the success of our first ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course – responsively set up to meet the needs of the individuals coming through our Access Progress Service – we are pleased to announce future dates to help unemployed parents improve their English to support them to find work. The course will start on 24 January 2022, delivered in-house at our Community College at 156 Cowgate, Edinburgh, by an Edinburgh College tutor.

Access Progress Caseworker, Helen Murray, commented:
‘Edinburgh College have been extremely supportive in creating this new Employability Skills-based class. Though there are other work-related ESOL classes available in Edinburgh, we are the only organisation offering content that actually helps non-English speakers find and apply for jobs, perform at interview and move into the workplace independently. We are extremely grateful to Edinburgh College for listening to our requirements and supporting our vision.’

These classes are for unemployed parents living in Edinburgh who are keen to work but struggling because of their lack of English skills. The course is accredited at Nat 3 and Nat 4 level (dependent on individual student capability) and is aimed at level 3 and level 4 ESOL learners who would benefit from the English skills essential in dealing with the practicalities of finding, applying for and securing jobs.

Students joining this programme will also receive 1:1 employability support from a dedicated Caseworker and the opportunity to take part in employability, wellbeing and life skills-focused group activities.
