In partnership with GTG Training, Access to Industry is delighted to be offering an all-new course – Access to Mechanics – aimed at providing young people who have an interest in mechanics with a pathway into the industry. The course will run over a four-week period on a two day basis, from 7 Febraury-1 March 2022, delivered at GTG’s purpose-built training facility at Ratho Station in Edinburgh (pictured).
Set up with the intention of meeting the needs of the young people coming through our EdinMe Service, but open to all eligible Access to Industry users (aged 16-24, living in Edinburgh, and experiencing barriers to education and/or employment), Access to Mechanics will help young people to expand their knowledge and skill sets, gain real practical experience, and build lasting relationships with employers.
Students on the course will be supported by a dedicated Caseworker, who will help them with progressing into positive destinations within their chosen field once the course is completed. At the end of the course, students will achieve a City and Guilds SCQF Level 4 Award in ‘Introduction to Vehicle Systems Maintenance’ and an ‘Adult Achievement Award’. There is then the potential to progress onto an apprenticeship or a work placement in a garage or auto-trader.
Lucy Appleton, Caseworker for EdinMe, says:
‘EdinMe are delighted to be playing a part in supporting young people with breaking into the Mechanics Industry. For many, barriers such as a lack of experience or qualifications are preventing them from entering their chosen field. We hope to offer an opportunity for them to overcome these barriers and gain a real practical introduction into a career as a Mechanic. And then, once the course is completed, putting this into practice by facilitating their progression into positive destinations.’
